Since their beginnings as dancers with The Australian Ballet, Graeme and Janet have created a wide repertoire and have established an international reputation for Australian dance abroad. They have been passionately commitment to the leadership and artistic excellence of Sydney Dance Company. During their tenure, Graeme, with Janet, created more than 50 works, including 35 full-length productions. Janet has been a charismatic performer in most of these productions, inspiring Graeme’s creations of many brilliant characters. They continue their creative partnership as freelance artists.
Graeme’s awards are too many to mention but include three honorary doctorates, a Helpmann Award, a James Cassius Award, a Centenary Medal, a Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Award and two Australian Dance Awards. He was named Cultural Leader of the Year in 2004 by the Australian Business Arts Foundation and listed among Australia’s 50 Most Glamorous Exports at a special celebration hosted by the Australian Government and Austrade in 2005.
