We are pleased to announce that the 2012 Australian Dance Awards will be held in Perth on Saturday 1 September. It is the first time the national awards ceremony will be held in Perth and is only the second time the event has been presented outside of the cities of Melbourne and Sydney.

"Ausdance WA is absolutely delighted to host the event in 2012. It is a real coup for the city and one which we are excited to be part of," comments Michelle Saunders, Director, Ausdance WA.

The event is to take place at Perth's newest venue, the Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre, which opened in January this year. Commencing with a ‘red carpet’ VIP event in the theatre foyer the Awards will extend into formal presentations with performances that showcase some of the best Australian and Western Australian dancers and dance companies.

Chair of the Australian Dance Award Committee, Robina Beard OAM, says she is thrilled that the Australian Dance Awards is making its mark all around Australia:

After wonderful presentations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane this year, and now Perth in 2012, the Awards truly are the Australian dance awards. Western Australia has always produced incredible dance and dancers and it is exciting that the dance profession will gather in 2012 for the presentations.
