The selection panel includes dance professionals representing all states and territories and many different sectors. They choose a shortlist from your nominations and vote for the winners. Panel members try to see all local performances. Ausdance provides DVD recordings of performances for panel members who haven't seen a nominated work. The usual term of service on the Selection Panel is three years.

The Chair and Selection panel participate on a voluntary basis.
